Movement drills relax a dog's mind.  This is instantly obvious for defensive or aggressive behaviors but movement can interrupt anxiety from separation also.  During a typical structured walk, we begin with transferring the leash from an owner to a trainer.  This is often with the help of other balanced dogs in a small group.  Through short sessions of separation, the owner will reappear for the structured walk when the dog is calm.  Typically the dogs never even notice the owner has left during these drills.  They do however notice them return.  As these lessons prove to be successful, we progress to "place" training.  This is when the dogs are in a stationary position and the owner leaves.  The trainer will interrupt anxiety with movement, or balance drills.  It's important to understand that returning to an anxious dog is reinforcing the anxiety.  Our trainers will coach the owner as to the proper timing for their return.  Further choreographed drills can be done at the clients home for crate training.  Through repeated exercises we simulate leaving the home but monitor and interrupt behavior remotely with a camera system and remote collar.  Like all our lessons, we have a systematic approach to evaluating behavior, and teaching our clients how to encourage or discourage their dogs behavoir.

  • A clients success with changing their dog's anxious tendencies is dependent upon practicing the protocols they have been instructed in between our formal lessons.
